Gov. Baker Sued for Issuing COVID Decrees

A national entity, The New Civil Liberties Alliance, has filed a case in Worcester Superior Court. A nonprofit organized to fight the “unconstitutional administrative state,” it seeks to nullify Gov. Baker's State of Emergency declaration, and the dozens of executive orders he subsequently issued.

Filed on behalf of ten small businesses harmed by those edicts, the lawsuit argues the governor was incorrect in adopting emergency powers under the Civil Defense Act, Specifically, the NCLA argues that law is designed for threatening crises such as invasions and natural disasters, not pandemics.
